Majiri Sakhi FPO is a robust, women-owned collective in Dharashiv driving both economic empowerment and sustainable agriculture for rural women farmers in Maharashtra

Majiri Sakhi FPO (formally Manjiri Sakhi Producer Company Limited) is a women-led Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) based in Dharashiv (formerly Osmanabad), Maharashtra. It was incorporated on April 6, 2017, and is an all-women collective that currently has over 1,500–2,300 shareholder farmers as members.

This FPO primarily focuses on oilseeds and pulses as major crops, supporting women farmers through collective operations, access to markets, and capacity-building4. Supported by the NGO Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP), Majiri Sakhi FPO aims to empower women by improving their bargaining power, helping them adopt sustainable farming practices, and enhancing their role in agricultural value chains.

Sustainable Agriculture: Members receive training in natural and organic farming, soil nutrition, pest management, and climate-smart practices, reducing input costs while improving crop yields.

Value Chain Integration: Majiri Sakhi FPO helps link women farmers directly to markets, supports collective marketing, and runs demonstrations on value-added processing like vermicompost production.

Director Dipali Kakasaheb Thodsare and other women leaders from the FPO have been highlighted in regional media for their efforts in promoting women’s leadership in farming.

Government and NGO Partnerships: The FPO regularly collaborates with local government (ATMA, KVK, etc.) for scheme convergence, technical training, and water conservation initiatives, benefitting the broader farming community in Dharashiv.

Community Tangibles: Besides farming, the FPO facilitates other entrepreneurial ventures, supports land-title acquisition for women, and helps members obtain business licenses and shop registrations.
